Camaleonte is a vibrant new space in Bolzano where teenagers and young adults can bring their own ideas to life—whether through personal projects, collaborative activities, or creative events. Designed to be as flexible and colorful as its name suggests, Camaleonte also serves as a platform for local artists to exhibit their work.
The space was created through a participatory design process initiated by Cooltour, a youth center in Bolzano. Together with young people from the community, we hosted several workshops to co-develop the spatial concept. From the first sketches to the final touches, the design and realization were truly collaborative.
Camaleonte was designed to adapt—serving as a hangout spot, creative workshop, or exhibition space depending on the moment. Developed together with local teenagers and young adults, the layout includes dedicated zones for fun and creativity, shaped around their needs.
A standout feature is the acoustic knitting installation: a vibrant wool “jungle” made in collaboration with the youth. It improves sound quality and provides a playful visual barrier for the street-facing windows, balancing privacy with natural light.
With a focus on sustainability, much of the furniture was second-hand, and neighbors contributed kitchen items—helping to build both the space and the community around it.
